Project Overview
Pet MatRx is a performance-driven pet wellness brand focused on helping dogs and their owners achieve better health, behavior, and overall quality of life. As their brand continued to grow, they found that their existing website no longer reflected who they were.
Built on BigCommerce, their site provided solid ecommerce functionality, but it lacked the flexibility and design control needed to communicate a premium, results-focused brand. The experience felt templated, limiting their ability to stand out in a competitive market.
This created a disconnect between their messaging and the visual experience users encountered on the site. At the same time, they weren’t interested in starting over from scratch or disrupting their existing ecommerce operations.
RDC approached the project with a strategy-first mindset, developing a custom web design and development plan tailored specifically to Pet MatRx’s situation. Rather than forcing a platform migration, RDC worked within the existing BigCommerce framework to deliver a fully customized front-end experience.
The process began with deep brand discovery, taking the time to understand Pet MatRx’s audience, positioning, and unique value in the market. From there, RDC developed fully custom, SEO-optimized website content designed to clearly communicate product benefits, build trust, and support long-term organic growth.
Detailed wireframes were then created to map out the user journey, optimize conversion paths, and ensure an intuitive, mobile-first experience before any design work began.
With a strong strategic foundation in place, RDC delivered a completely custom website design that aligned with the Pet MatRx brand—clean, modern, and performance-driven. The design introduced a clear visual hierarchy and intentional use of messaging and product imagery to guide users through the experience.
The development phase is where the project truly came together, as RDC custom-coded the new design directly within the BigCommerce environment. This approach allowed Pet MatRx to retain their existing ecommerce infrastructure, product data, and backend workflows.
At the same time, they achieved a fully custom look and feel typically associated with a ground-up rebuild, without the operational disruption.
